Awnlux SA5600 Manual Solar RV Awning — CIGS Thin-Film, Off-Grid Power
The SA5600 is the manual version of the Awnlux solar roll-out awning range. The operating principle is straightforward: you open the awning by hand, the CIGS solar fabric faces the sun, and the system starts generating DC power through MC4 connectors. No motor, no electrical control system, no additional components to maintain. For off-grid builds where simplicity and reliability matter more than one-button convenience, the SA5600 is the direct answer.
The awning uses a standard roll-out design. The unfolding angle can be adjusted to face the sun's position directly — important for solar awnings because the power output improves when the fabric faces the sun rather than hanging at the default awning pitch. This flexibility in angle adjustment is a practical advantage over roof-mounted solar panels, which are fixed to the vehicle geometry.
The solar fabric is CIGS thin-film — a continuous semiconductor layer rather than a series of rigid silicon cells. The result is that partial shading affects only the shaded portion of the fabric, not the entire output. Under 30% tree shade, CIGS retains 72% output; silicon drops to 15%. The SA5600 fabric rolls around a 4cm minimum reel diameter without cracking — fundamental to the durability of a retractable solar system where the fabric undergoes thousands of deployment cycles over its 8–10 year lifespan.
The SA5600 carries four independent European certifications and provides a 5-year 80% power output guarantee on the CIGS solar fabric. For OEM partners, custom sizing within the 8–20ft range, private label branding, and bespoke packaging are available.
Wind Resistance — What Force 5 Rating Means in Practice
The SA5600 frame is rated for safe use up to Force 5 (Fresh Breeze, approximately 29–38 km/h sustained). Retract in winds above Force 5 or when conditions are developing unpredictably.
The SA5600 solar fabric is heavier than standard PVC vinyl (1.3 kg/m²) — this means wind pressure loads on a fully extended solar awning are proportionally greater than on a standard awning of the same size. Retract earlier rather than later in developing weather.
• CIGS thin-film solar fabric generates DC power while shading
• 72% output retained under 30% tree shade (vs 15% for silicon panels)
• Fabric angle adjustable to face sun position — maximises power generation efficiency
• 360° rollable CIGS fabric — min. 4cm reel diameter, flexible without cracking
• 1.3 kg/m² fabric weight — 43% lighter than equivalent silicon panels
• No hot-spot effect — partial shading affects only the shaded area
• Standard MC4 DC output — compatible with 12V, 24V, and 48V battery systems
• 8–20ft width range; 8ft extension; wall-mount (vertical) installation
• Verified through 3,600 open/close fatigue test cycles
• 5-year 80% power efficiency guarantee on CIGS solar fabric
• Solar Component Workmanship: 3-year warranty
• EN 13561:2015, CE, LVD+EMC, and RoHS certified — four independent certifications
• OEM custom size, logo, and packaging available

Q1: Does the SA5600 need a motor to generate solar power?
No. The solar generation is independent of the control system. You open the awning manually using the pull strap and pull rod, and as soon as the CIGS solar fabric is exposed to light, it begins generating DC power through the MC4 output connectors. The motor in the SA5700 only affects how the awning opens and closes — not whether it generates power.
Q2: Why choose SA5600 over SA5700?
SA5600 has no motor, no electrical control system, and no motor components to maintain. It is the most cost-effective and mechanically simple solar awning in the Awnlux range. Choose SA5600 if you prefer a fully manual system, are building off-grid with no 12V power for a motor, or want to minimise the number of components that can fail in the field. Choose SA5700 if one-button convenience and faster open/close are priorities.
Q3: Can I adjust the awning angle to face the sun?
Yes. The SA5600 support arms can be adjusted so the fabric faces the sun's position more directly. This is a practical advantage over roof-mounted solar panels which are fixed at the vehicle roof angle. Adjusting the awning pitch toward the sun improves power generation efficiency, particularly in the morning and evening when the sun is low.
Q4: Does the MPPT controller come with the SA5600?
No. The SA5600 outputs standard MC4 DC power, which connects to an MPPT controller that you source separately based on your battery voltage and chemistry. Contact our team with your battery type and voltage for controller specification recommendations.
Q5: What is the difference between SA5600 and SA5900?
SA5600 is a roll-out awning — the solar fabric is exposed when retracted. It is manual control only and covers up to 20ft wide. SA5900 is a full cassette awning — the solar fabric is sealed inside an aluminum shell when retracted, providing better protection during travel. SA5900 is motorized only and covers up to 13ft wide. SA5900 is recommended when fabric protection during travel is a priority; SA5600 is the more economical and simpler choice.
Q6: Does the SA5600 work in partial shade or cloudy weather?
Yes. CIGS thin-film retains 72% output under 30% tree shade (vs 15% for silicon). On a cloudy day, CIGS holds around 45% output. The SA5600 remains a practical power source in the mixed light conditions typical of campsites.
Q7: Is the SA5600 certified for European market sales?
Yes. The SA5600 holds four independent EU certifications: EN 13561:2015 (Cert. No. M.2026.206.C0134616, valid to Feb 2031), CE Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC (Cert. No. M.2026.206.C0134729, valid to Feb 2031), LVD + EMC (Cert. No. M.2025.206.C130953, valid to Dec 2030), and RoHS (Cert. No. M.2025.206.C130954, valid to Dec 2030). All issued by UDEM International Certification.
Q8: Can I get the SA5600 with OEM branding?
Yes. OEM options include custom frame colors beyond standard black and white, and private label branding on the hardware. The CIGS solar fabric is black only and cannot be customized in color. Contact our team with your required size, annual volume, and branding requirements for a detailed OEM proposal.
