Awnlux W5500 Full Cassette RV Awning — Manual or Motorized, Wall Mount, 150–450cm

The W5500 is a full cassette wall-mount awning designed for Class B van conversions, Class C motorhomes, and small to mid-size travel trailers. The cassette is an aluminum shell that fully encloses the fabric, roller tube, arms, and internal mechanism when the awning is retracted. This means everything that moves is protected from UV, road dust, rain, and debris during travel — not just when parked.

Two control versions are available. The manual version uses a crank handle and suits buyers who prefer a simple system with no electrical components. The motorized version adds a built-in motor with one-button open and close, and includes a crank handle backup port so the awning can be closed manually if power is unavailable. Both versions cover the full 150 to 450cm width range.

The W5500 uses a standard full cassette design. The internal support arm structure uses a thin steel wire rope — a proven, cost-effective design that has been in continuous production since 2010 and has been supplied to OEM partners across Australia, Europe, and North America.

Buyers who need a lighter and more compact cassette profile, or who prefer manual-only control, should also consider the W5510. The W5510 has a narrower size range (200–400cm) but features a more compact cassette design, support legs stored inside the front bar, and a wide cloth-strip arm reinforcement for higher rigidity. The W5500 is the better choice when motorized control is needed, or when widths below 200cm or above 400cm are required.

For OEM partners, the W5500 is available with custom frame colors, private label branding, and tailored sizing within the 150–450cm range.

Wind Resistance — What Class 5 Rating Means for Real Camping Use

The W5500 frame is constructed from aluminum alloy and is designed to withstand Class 5 wind conditions (Fresh Breeze, approximately 29–38 km/h sustained). We do not recommend leaving the W5500 extended in Class 6 winds (Strong Breeze, 39–49 km/h) or above.

This recommendation reflects how awning wind resistance works in practice. The awning's structural integrity is only one part of the system. Real-world wind resistance also depends on:

  • The load-bearing capacity of the mounting points connecting the awning to the vehicle body
  • The movement or rocking of the vehicle itself in strong wind conditions
  • The total wind pressure load acting on the full fabric surface area

A wind resistance rating describes the structural design limit of the awning frame. It does not mean the awning is safe to leave deployed in severe weather — this applies to all RV awnings, including premium international brands, which universally recommend retraction during high winds or sudden weather changes.

What a well-designed RV awning should deliver:

  • Smooth and reliable open and close operation every time
  • Stability and firmness in standard outdoor camping conditions
  • Sufficient capability to handle typical daily wind and weather
  • Fast, safe retraction when conditions change suddenly

FAQ

Q1: What is the difference between W5500 and W5510?

Both are full cassette wall-mount awnings for similar vehicle types. The key differences: W5500 covers 150–450cm and is available in manual or motorized control. W5510 covers 200–400cm, is manual-only, has a more compact cassette profile, support legs stored inside the front bar (vs behind on W5500), and uses a wide cloth-strip arm reinforcement (vs thin steel wire on W5500, making W5510 slightly more rigid). Choose W5500 when motorized control is needed or when sizes outside 200–400cm are required.

Q2: What is the difference between W5500 and W5900?

Both are full cassette wall-mount awnings, but W5900 is the large-size version. W5900 covers 300–600cm wide with up to 250cm extension — designed for Class A motorhomes and wide caravans. W5500 covers 150–450cm and is optimised for Class B, Class C, and small to mid-size travel trailers. If your vehicle needs coverage wider than 450cm, choose W5900.

Q3: Can the motorized W5500 be closed manually if the power fails?

Yes. The motorized version includes a crank handle backup port. If the motor or battery fails while the awning is extended, you insert the crank handle and close the awning manually. This backup is standard on all Awnlux motorized cassette awning models.

Q4: What does "width must be 50cm greater than extension" mean?

The W5500 arms are designed to fold back into the cassette when retracted. If the awning width is too close to the extension depth, the arms touch each other during closure and cannot fold flat. As a minimum rule: awning width must be at least 50cm larger than the extension projection you select. For example, if you need 200cm extension, the minimum awning width is 250cm. Contact our team to confirm the right size combination for your vehicle.

Q5: Is the W5500 certified for European market sales?

Yes. The W5500 holds EN 13561:2015 certification (Certificate No. M.2026.206.C0134616, issued by UDEM International Certification, valid to February 2031) and CE marking under the 2006/42/EC Machinery Directive (Certificate No. M.2026.206.C0134729, valid to February 2031). These cover both manual and motorized versions. Certificate documentation is included in the standard OEM document package.

Q6: Can the support arms be fixed to the RV body instead of the ground?

Yes. The W5500 support legs have two configuration options. They can be fixed against the RV body — which keeps the awning taut and compact, suitable for windy conditions and when ground clearance is limited. Or they can be extended to the ground to create a larger covered area. Both configurations use the same arm hardware. Confirm your preferred setup with our team when ordering if you need guidance on the bracket configuration.

Q7: Can I get the W5500 with OEM branding?

Yes. Awnlux supports private label OEM orders on the W5500. Options include custom frame colors beyond standard black and white, custom fabric colors from the 6 standard gradient range or custom-matched colors, and private label branding (laser engraving or metal sticker on the cassette end cap). Contact our team with your required width, control system, color specification, and annual volume for a detailed OEM proposal.
