Power control caravan awning

The W5700 frame is built from 6063-T5 high-strength aluminum alloy — the same grade used in structural aerospace and marine applications for its combination of strength, low weight, and corrosion resistance. The arms use gas spring (pneumatic rod) technology, which gives controlled and stable opening movement compared to standard torsion spring arms. Under load, gas spring arms hold position without bouncing or swinging, which matters when the awning is extended in uneven terrain or light wind.

The fabric is 16oz PVC vinyl — a specification that corresponds to 450g/m², rated for 100% waterproof performance and UPF 50+ UV resistance. The W5700C variant uses a modular roller tube design that reduces all package sizes to under 2 metres, significantly reducing freight cost for international wholesale and container shipments.

For OEM partners and distributors, the W5700 is available with custom frame colors, private label branding, and tailored sizing anywhere within the 250-600cm range. The W5700 has been supplied to OEM partners across Australia, North America, and Europe since its introduction, and replacement fabric, arms, and motor units are stocked for after-sales support.

The W5700 frame is constructed from 6063-T5 high-strength aluminum alloy and is designed to withstand Class 5 wind conditions (Fresh Breeze, approximately 29–38 km/h sustained). We do not recommend leaving the W5700 extended in Class 6 winds (Strong Breeze, 39–49 km/h) or above.

This recommendation reflects how awning wind resistance actually works in practice. The awning's structural integrity is only one part of the system. Real-world wind resistance also depends on:

  • The load-bearing capacity of the mounting points connecting the awning to the vehicle body
  • The movement or rocking of the vehicle itself in strong wind conditions
  • The total wind pressure load acting on the full fabric surface area

A wind resistance rating describes the structural design limit of the awning frame itself. It does not mean the awning is safe to leave deployed in severe weather. This is true of all RV awnings — including premium international brands — which universally recommend retraction during high winds or sudden weather changes.

What a well-designed RV awning should deliver in practice:

  • Smooth and reliable open and close operation every time
  • Stability and firmness in standard outdoor camping conditions
  • Sufficient capability to handle typical daily wind and weather
  • Fast, safe retraction when conditions change suddenly

The W5700's one-button motorized retraction is specifically designed for the last point: getting the awning in quickly before a gust develops. The emergency crank handle provides a manual backup when power is unavailable.

FAQ

Q1: Can I close the W5700 manually if the power goes out?

Yes. Every W5700 includes a dedicated emergency crank handle. If the motor fails or the battery is flat, you insert the crank into the manual port on the motor housing and close the awning by hand. This takes approximately 90 seconds for a full retraction. The crank handle is stored in a bracket on the awning cassette and should be kept accessible at all times.

Q2: What wind speed should I retract the W5700?

The W5700 is designed for Class 5 wind conditions (Fresh Breeze, approximately 29-38 km/h sustained). We recommend retracting the awning when wind reaches Class 6 (Strong Breeze, 39 km/h or above) or when gusts become unpredictable. This is standard practice for all RV awnings regardless of brand — the wind load on a fully extended fabric surface exceeds what any awning frame is designed to resist in storm conditions. The one-button motor retraction on the W5700 makes fast closure straightforward.

Q3: What is the difference between W5700 and W5700C?

Both are mechanically identical. The W5700C uses a modular roller tube design with a tube connector, which reduces all package sizes to under 2 metres regardless of awning width. This significantly reduces freight costs for international shipping and is recommended for wholesale and container orders. There is no difference in performance, weight, or appearance once installed.

Q4: Does the W5700 come with LED lights?

LED strip lights are an optional add-on, not included as standard. Anti-flap bar, sun blocker side panels, awning tent attachment, and wall kit are also available as separate accessories. Contact our team to confirm which accessories are compatible with your selected awning size.

Q5: How long does the W5700 motor warranty last?

The motor carries a 3-year warranty against manufacturing defects. The aluminum alloy frame carries a 1-year warranty. The fabric carries a 1-year warranty. Replacement motors, fabric rolls, arms, end caps, and front bars are available for all W5700 sizes. OEM partners can order spare parts kits alongside production runs.

Q6: Can I get the W5700 in a custom color or with my own logo?

Yes. Awnlux supports OEM orders with custom frame colors beyond standard black and white, custom fabric colors, and private label branding (laser engraving or metal sticker on the cassette end cap and hardware). Contact our team with your required width, control system preference, color specification, and annual volume for a detailed OEM proposal.
